Playing video games: The story is just in your mind

Written by igcompany on 02 April 2012.

I have been playing FIFA 12 and started wondering what keeps us playing video games? I mean of course there is a good gameplay and some good graphics but after a while it becomes boring and you learn every move the computer makes.

What really does a game unique is the impact it has on your mind. If it has a great story then your mind will start creating it's own version of that game's story and that's how the game will have a fabolous story but most of it is just in your mind.

Let's think about FIFA.

FIFA 12

You start a new career. You start with a club from ground up think about getting it promoted to the first series but hey! It's just a game if somehow your saves will get deleted you will have to start everything from scratch and play the same games again. Here is where your own story gets in. You start (maybe without realising) that you want desperately to achieve the objective you have set in your mind (promoting the team) and start imagining all those in game animations like they are real.

So the graphics aren't that important in the end aren't they? Yes they can be important because like i said they can have a bigger impact on your mind and the way it will create the 'new' story for your satisfaction.

What game developers could do to make the games even more real (and have a bigger impact on player's mind) is to create more games that can be played with 3D on and Kinect. That would give you an instant access to the game's world.

What games have you played that makes you (or gives you) such a strange pleasing feeling that makes you want more?
