Game Information

Steel Horizon offers players complete control of Naval fleets in a series of missions within a fictional scenario featuring well-known World War II battles. The game is inspired by popular pulp fiction stories set during World War II, and delves into the key events and characters behind historic battles. Its scenario tells of a shady third party pulling the strings to orchestrate the war, using futuristic technology to advance the carnage for their own ends.

Players compete in both turn based and also real time strategy battles, plotting moves and attacks in the turn based section and getting hands on by switching to the real time combat mode where they?ll be in charge of firing and reloading the weapons. The emphasis is not on trying to blast everything that moves however, as the player will often leave their vessels exposed and in significant danger.

Keeping the right ships afloat is key, as the player will need certain craft to enable to them gain new bases and increase their fleet and others, like Submarines, to take out the heavyweight attack carriers of your enemy.

As you would expect with a game of this nature, it?s perfect for two-player action and the wireless connections of both machines enables friends to compete against each other. With 20 single player missions to take on and the option to customise the player?s own flagship, there?s plenty to get stuck into.

  • Build and command a powerful Naval fleet
  • Mix turn based strategy and real time action
  • 20 missions to play through
  • Wireless two player battles
  • Customise a flagship and choose playing style

Dewy's Adventure Preview (Wii)

Written by igcompany on Monday, 14 June 2010 14:28.

Game Information

From the same creator of the acclaimed Eledees, Dewy?s Adventure is yet another compelling and unique Wii title from Konami. It?s set in a world where pure water and green forests have flourished and which once enjoyed centuries of peace and prosperity under the careful watch of the Elder Tree.

However, the evil Don Hedron has seized control of the Elder Tree and transformed the land into a gloomy world smothered by Black Water. Using the last of its remaining power, the Elder Tree created a small droplet of water, Dewy, and granted it the power of the elements with the hope that it could eradicate the Black Water and restore peace to the world.

Using the Wii-Remote, players must tilt the controller to slide Dewy around the landscape and also use the remote to alter the landscape and change the weather effects. Dewy can change from his droplet of water into a block of ice or a cloud to then crash into or zap with lightning the enemies that come at him.

When prompted, shaking the remote will instigate an earthquake and waving it around will create a wind storm, effects that are also vital for players to make progress. There is also an edit mode that players can use to create their own levels before sharing with their friends via WiiConnect plus there is a multiplayer mode.

Dewy?s Adventure is cute and colourful, but is unlike anything else out there for the Wii ? something that should guarantee its success.

  • Innovative gameplay and use of Wii remote
  • Tilt controller to slide Dewy around levels
  • Shake controller to activate other effects
  • Change to a cloud and ice to attack enemies
  • Up to four players with multiplayer games

Metal Gear Acid Preview (PSP)

Written by igcompany on Monday, 14 June 2010 14:11.

Game Information

Snake is dragged out of retirement to prevent terrorists from stealing valuable scientific data, at the same time protecting the life of a US senator.

Although the action looks every bit as good as any of the MGS series, this first instalment for PSP is played according to the rules of a strategic card game. Konami is widely known for success in collectible card games (CCG), and the MGS themes translate brilliantly to this popular format.

'Acid' features a brand new storyline, with Snake answering to a new commander named Roger. A group of mercenaries has hijacked an airliner with a US senator on board, and they're holding him to ransom. In return for his life, the terrorists want the US military to release details of a project codenamed Pythagoras. The mercenaries have set up a stronghold in a research facility on a small African Island, Lobito, and it's here that Snake intends to thwart their plans.

To help him complete the missions, Snake is joined at certain stages by a female secret cooperative named Teliko who is also a playable character. They combine abilities, as portrayed by the cards, to solve puzzles and defeat enemies. There is also a young girl called Alice who lends her psychic abilities to the cause.

The gameplay requires you to collect cards and construct decks that will decide how you complete objectives. Card types include Move, Use and Equip and a combination of these is offered to you in each situation - you might want to use the Move cards to sneak up behind an enemy guard after applying an Equip card to employ night-vision goggles then Use a weapon to bring him down.

Each card has a 'cost' value, meaning that it takes a certain amount of game time to recover from the action. This plays an important strategic role, and as you get further into the game more options become available with cards either found, stolen from enemies, or earned due to top-class performance. At the end of each mission, Snake is rated on his ability and new cards are awarded accordingly.

Although very different to MGS games you may have played in the past, Acid still retains the classic MGS feel. It has all the atmospheric locations, cool action sequences and intriguing plot twists you have come to expect.

  • Collectible Card Game meets Metal Gear Solid!
